Oscar-nominated actor Owen Wilson, 38, was hospitalized after attempting suicide; The National Enquirer has broke the story Monday exclusively. At
12:10 p.m. on
August 26, 2007, Owen Wilson was rushed to
St. John's Hospital in
Santa Monica, California, by ambulance. Initial reports cited the reason as dehydration, however it has been reported that he was discovered with superficial wounds to his wrists and a near-empty bottle of pills in the bathroom of his
Santa Monica home.
Santa Monica police and fire department issued a statement saying that medical aid had been dispatched to Wilson's address in Santa Monica. The statement said "a person" was taken to St. John's Hospital but did not provide any details. Local media reported unidentified police sources confirming that the person treated was Wilson.
He was discovered by his brother Luke who summoned help. His situation was dire when he was discovered. Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Wilson's house around noon on Sunday by his brother Andrew.
Wilson was brought in to St. John's in very serious condition. Police were on the scene at his house and at the hospital. He was treated and stabilized at St. John's and then transferred by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai medical center where he is being He was transferred from St. John’s after being stabilized to be de-toxed and details are still coming out. His brothers Andrew and Luke were with him.
Wilson has released the following statement which says absolutely nothing about whether or not he actually tried to kill himself saying, "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."
Cynthia Harding, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, confirmed that Wilson had been transferred to the facility late Sunday night after first checking into St. John's Health Center and that he is currently "in good condition." The family and friends of the star of "You, Me and Dupree" and "Zoolander" is still in shock. Nobody has commented on why Wilson tried to kill himself.
