Patrick Swayze passed away today after a year and a half long battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze, best known for starring in the blockbuster films "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," died at his L.A. home with his wife, Lisa Niemi, at his side. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early in 2008 and went on to film a final television series, the police drama "The Beast," while undergoing chemotherapy. A publicist for Swayze confirmed the death of the actor, the Associated Press reported today.

------------------------------------------------------

Patrick Wayne Swayze (pronounced /ˈsweɪziː/; August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter. He was best-known for his roles as romantic leading men in the films Dirty Dancing and Ghost and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was listed by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.

Diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008, Swayze told Barbara Walters a year later that he was "kicking it". However, he died from the disease on September 14, 2009. His last role was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. However, due to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series, and on June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been canceled.

Patrick Swayze Has Cancer and Only have 5 weeks to live

The National Enquirer claims that Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer is true.

Patrick Swayze’s representative confirmed an earlier story from The National Enquirer that he has pancreatic cancer and only has a few weeks left to live. His spokesperson told Page Six that 55-year-old Patrick was diagnosed a month ago and that he “underwent a serious gastrointestinal procedure” at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto. His rep also told PageSix.com that Patrick might only have a few weeks to live.

The average life expectancy of someone with this type of cancer is six to nine months. Swayze's publicist issued the following statement:
"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic. Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

The National Enquirer reports:
"He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for — and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.
"He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure," said an insider."

So it seems that the National Enquirer was right again. I hope he beats this thing.
